Dad is the Fun One

I am way behind on this blog! For some families December is the craziest time of year, but for us the weeks leading up to Easter and Spring Break are the busiest. Jay is in the Easter Pageant at church and spends most evening/ weekends at church and I am flying solo with the kids. Eventually I will get caught up on blogging.

Last Sunday we put the kids down for their naps after church and about 10 minutes later we heard some thumping go on in Trey's room. Jay went up to investigate. He found Trey laying under his bed. Now if I had found him I would have told him to get back in bed and to stay in his bed! Jays just asks, "Do you want your pillow with you under there?" Trey said yes and then took a two and half hour nap UNDER his bed.

Jay came downstairs and told me Trey was going to take his nap under his bed like it was no big deal. There was some questioning on my part, but apparently this is one of those guy things where Jay totally understood why Trey would sleep down there and thought it was cool.

That's why Dad is the fun one.

Good Friends

Saturday evening Trey and Charlotte's friend Tucker came to visit with his parents. We had so much fun hanging out! Tucker falls in age right between our two and we enjoyed watching them interact together.

Tucker was an equal opportunity friend. Sometimes he played (or bathed!) with Charlotte.

Other times he wanted to be with Trey.

We got a chance to get them all to take a picture together. So cute!

Then Charlotte wanted to be closer to Tucker.

He did not appreciate her attempts to snuggle.

Luckily Trey did not mind. He is used to his sister's snuggling tendencies.

At the end of this night Tucker's dad was holding Charlotte and they were getting ready to leave. Trey looked right at him and said, "I want you to leave Charlotte here." He was worried they were going to take Charlotte with them!

Thanks for playing with us Tucker!

Early March

We haven't had much "special" stuff going on the past few weeks, but there is still never a dull moment at our house.

Trey decided to unroll all the freezer-sealing bag rolls we have in our pantry last week and ended up with 3 very stiff paper towel-like rolls. He likes to use them as telescope and will often come up to you and say, "Come with me! Let's go on an adventure. We're looking for rocket ships!

He new favorite phrase for Charlotte is either
"Come on little fellow!" (He ignores all the times we explain that Charlotte is a girl and not a 'fellow'.) or
"Oh Charlotte, you're my best pal."

Charlotte is cutting 5 teeth right now, 4 of which are molars. We have gone through a lot of children's tylenol and teething tablets at night.

She is also pulling up on everything and cruising around. She really likes to push chairs and her baby strollers around the house. Now Trey is trying to find higher hiding places so she doesn't get his toys.

On Monday we had another snow day. When I woke up at 5:45 I saw no snow outside, but by 6:30 everything was covered and school was cancelled. Trey was so excited to see the snow again. He kept saying, "Look everybody the snow came back!" He and Jay most of the morning playing outside in the snow.

We have also been working on cleaning up in the evening. We were really good at it with Trey before we moved, but then trying to get them both in bed and Trey protesting his bath every night led us to just leaving the toys everywhere and coming back to clean up them after they went to bed. His reward for cleaning up his toys is getting to play Concentration. My parents got him Eric Carle concentration cards for Christmas. He loves matching the animals and the numbers.

With Charlotte being able to reach higher places no food left lying around is safe. Trey put his snack and milk cup on his table and went to do something else. In no time at all Charlotte had spotted it and claimed it as her own. Notice she is still holding onto her snack cup as well.

Last night at church Trey made a picture about day and night. One half had a dark sky with stars and a moon and the other half of the paper had a light sky with a sun. Not surprisingly Trey's stars are all in a neat row. When we walked out to the car he looked up at the sky and said, "Hmm.. I wonder what time is it? Let me check my list. (He looks down to his paper for reference and points to the night side.) It's nighttime!"

The Playhouse

Trey and Charlotte received lots of new toys at Christmas and then at Charlotte's birthday party two weeks later. Uncle Mark gave Trey a cardboard playhouse that was just his size for Christmas. We decided to wait to open it until a time we would be home all day and needed a new diversion. Last weekend was the perfect time. The weather was extremely windy and we were going to be home all day Saturday and Sunday after church.

Jay went down the basement and brought up the box for the playhouse. Luckily it was assembled in a mere 10 minutes. I can't say that about most toys.

Trey had so much fun playing inside it and popping his head of the windows! He wanted to direct the coloring and would only use the marker on it if we helped him. I guess all those conversations we have about only coloring on the paper make it hard for him to color on walls, even if they are just cardboard.

Charlotte absolutely loves the playhouse. Almost as much as she loves her phone.

They especially enjoy playing in the house together. I love how much Charlotte adores Trey. We had just told him to stop squeezing her hand and she still is smiling at him.

Peekaboo! Can you see me?

Bedtime Story Hour

Last Thursday evening the school I teach at celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday with Bedtime Story Hour. It is an event for students and their families to come, listen to Dr. Seuss books and spend time as a family together. I thought Trey would enjoy listening to the stories and he was old enough to handle the event. He called it a pajama party because he got to wear his pajamas.

Before it started he helped me set up. We walked down to the school library and as he walked in he started saying, "Oh, I like this book, and this book, and this tractor book..." The librarian said it made her night :)

In my classroom I read Wacky Wednesday to families. They rotated through in 15 minute sessions so I had 3 different groups of families come to my room. Jay scanned the pages of the book into a flipchart for me to use on my Promethean board so the kids could come up and circle the things that were wacky on each page. Trey was very excited about the book being on the big screen. He got a Cat in the Hat tattoo on his arm and got to pick out a cookie on the way out the door. When I loaded him into the car at the end of the night he said, "Mommy I had so much fun at my pajama party!"
